SAT AND ACT ADMINISTRATION DATES FOR THE 2014-15 SCHOOL YEAR
SAT/ACT Prep Sites

Silsbee High School will be administering the SAT  on OCTOBER 11th.  Students need to go on to collegeboard.com to register for the exam.  The cost for the exam is $52.50.  If you are on free or reduced lunch, you may receive a total of 2 fee waivers for the SAT throughout your JUNIOR and SENIOR year.  The DEADLINE for registering for the October SAT is September 12th.

Silsbee High School will be administering the ACT on DECEMBER 13th.  Students need to go on to act.org to register for the exam.  The cost for the exam is $52.50 if you want to take the ACT with Plus Writing.
If you are on free or reduced lunch, you may receive a total of 2 fee waivers for the ACT throughout your JUNIOR and SENIOR year.  The DEADLINE for registering for the October SAT is November 7th.

Silsbee does not administer the ACT and SAT for all available test administration dates.  There are alternate sites such as Legacy Christian Academy on Hwy 105 in Beaumont, Texas where the SAT or ACT are administered when Silsbee High School's Test Administration Site is Closed.  See the attachment for all SAT / ACT ADMINISTRATION DATES for SILSBEE HIGH SCHOOL on the Link provided at the top of this blog.

Individuals desiring to attend a four year college will need to take the SAT and / or ACT at least 2-3 times in order to obtain the score desired.

 



APPLYING FOR COLLEGE 

Utilize the Apply Texas website to complete your applications to numerous colleges and universities in the state of Texas.  This website allows you to copy your application from one university to another. Apply Texas is a website not only for four year universities, but for two year colleges and technical schools.
You should complete your college applications by December 1st in order to take advantage of scholarship opportunities available through the schools. It's FAST, it's EASY, and it's FREE.

STUDENT- PARENT NIGHT FOR COLLEGE AND CAREER READINESS
This will be held on Monday, September 22nd from 5:30pm-6:30pm in the Silsbee High School Auditorium.  Information will be provided regarding Apply Texas, FAFSA, and Scholarships in addition to Registering for the SAT/ACT.

SENIORS COLLEGE CHECKLIST

  • Review your class schedule with your counselor to ensure you meet all college-preparatory requirements.
  • Earn college credit in high school by taking Advance Placement (AP) or Dual Credit Courses through Lamar State College-Orange
  • Come prepared to ask questions of the colleges that are in attendance on College Day.  This year College Day is September 11, 2014 from 9am - 11am in the Silsbee High School Practice gym.  Make sure that you have go on-line and registered at GoToCollegeFairs.com in order to create a barcode for the event.
  • Begin the college application process in September. Submit admissions applications no later than December. Go on-line to Apply Texas to take advantage of this convenient method of applying to multiple Texas Colleges and Universities.
  • Check with your counselor about scholarship opportunities and fill out every scholarship application possible.
  • Get a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) from your counselor, at www.fafsa.ed.gov, or by phone at 1-800-4-FED-AID.
  • Complete and submit the FAFSA as soon as possible after January 1. The sooner you submit it, the better your chances for getting a good financial aid package.   OFFICIAL FAFSA WEBSITE
  • Write to the college you have chosen to let them know you plan to attend. Write to other colleges that have accepted you to let them know of your decision so they can offer admission to another student.
  • Finalize college-housing arrangements, if you plan to live on campus.
  • See an academic advisor at college or university you will be attending, then register early.
  • Take part in summer orientation programs for incoming freshmen.
